PJP Jam and Looking Forward

During the PJP Jam, I gained numerous ideas for my project, but my primary focus was on creating a Hex Turn-based Strategy game. I dedicated the entire duration of the jam to developing the underlying system for this envisioned game. Unfortunately, I couldn't complete it in time for the jam submission deadline. Realizing my desire to continue working on this game beyond the jam, I made the decision to halt my progress about a day before the deadline. The main reason behind this choice was the accumulating technical debt caused by time constraints. I wanted to avoid reaching a point where the code became too tangled and difficult to unravel. As a result, the current version of the game available on Itch.io represents an older build, featuring only randomly generated terrain and pathfinding for the hex grid.

Moving forward, my main focus will be on several key tasks for the game's development:

  1.  Creating comprehensive documentation: Instead of relying solely on my vision, I will document the game's structure and design in detail. This will help me maintain clarity and provide guidance throughout the development process. This may include coming up with a proper name and description for the game.
  2. Strengthening the game's foundations: I plan to lay a solid groundwork that will facilitate future content and mechanics development. To achieve this, I will:
    1. Streamline the Hex grid system by removing unnecessary clutter and making it more robust according to my requirements.
    2. Implement separately controllable units to enhance gameplay possibilities.
    3. Develop simple visuals and user interface elements for units and game information.
    4. Establish the initial framework for a Turn-based system.
  3. Submitting an update for the Improve My Game Jam 27: As part of this event, I will showcase my progress by submitting an update to the game. This will include a devlog documenting the achievements and advancements made during that jam.

Additionally, if any unforeseen tasks or opportunities arise during the development process, I will address them accordingly.
